DION MCGREGOR

N 1964, TEN of the tape-recorded dreams of Dion McGregor were pressed into a record album and released by Decca Records, then one of the largest music companies in the world. The album, aptly entitled The Dream World Of Dion McGregor (He Talks In His Sleep), is a masterpiece of inadvertent surrealism.

The current album, DION McGREGOR DREAMS AGAIN, constitutes its sequel. It is drawn from the same source material as its predecessor -- the spoken-aloud dreams of Dion McGregor as taped by his roommate Michael Barr between 1960 and 1967 -- and its contents are no less bizarre, hilarious and enthralling. As before, almost every dream ends with Dion shrieking in fright (you could almost call this album Dion McGregor Screams Again), or otherwise arriving at some sort of wordless, unearthly crescendo.

One difference between the two volumes is that millennial standards of decency permit us to now include several dreams that were deemed too risqué for release in the earlier period. If these "dirty" dreams were merely titillating they would hardly be worth inclusion, but in fact they are every bit as humorous and inventive as the others. If you likened The Dream World Of Dion McGregor to a network TV show, then you can think of Dion McGregor Dreams Again as Dion's nightclub act -- and Dion McGregor works blue
