PRESTON ARI SWIRNOFF

''...Preston Ari Swirnoff's Maariv combines the disciplines of early academic electronic music with the makeshift sensibilities of DIY, facilitating an ad hoc studio/living room space, a selection of acoustic and electric instruments and tape machines for recording and manipulating the end results. The first two compositions deal with keyed instruments as their starting point, and explore various combinations of droning dissonance, all captured with a vintage, low fidelity production style. It's all very good, but the third composition (based on the electric guitar performance of Ilya Monosov) proves to be far more intriguing, taking clean string plucks and transforming them into a deeply sonorous, heavily layered work that sounds like a room full of broken grandfather clocks going haywire. It's really quite wonderful....''
